Help Me Dress Authentic 90's

Postby Steph1673 » Thu Jan 04, 2018 11:12 am

I'm chairing our trivia night in February and it's a 90's theme. I want to bring out my inner grunge, but be as authentic as possible. I know a tons of 90's stuff is "back in" but I want to be true to the era if possible and not buy "new brands" or the 2018 version of the 90's is that makes sense. I bought an ESPIRIT Black Leather Backpack purse on ebay (yes!) and some knock off, black floral print Doc Martens boots. I'm going for the feminine grunge look. I think I want to pair this with black tights (either ripped or fishnet?) with light wash denim shorts over, and then a 90's band tee of some sort and an open plaid long sleeve shirt.

I'm trying to get the jorts JUST right  I'm thinking these light wash, roll up Lee Jeans do the trick, what do you think? I only wish I could find some GUESS jean shorts in my size! https://www.target.com/p/women-s-mid-ri ... t=52135703

ETA: I did find these two Guess jean shorts from the 90s too: https://poshmark.com/listing/vintage-Gu ... gJTHPD_BwE

Thoughts?

I've been watching early Friends episodes on Netflix lately. Any chance you could find a vest? Lots of good inspiration on there.

I think the Lee shorts would be good, especially if you're concerned about the length of the others. Do you have a flannel you can throw over the t shirt? I think that would drive home the reference. If that's not feminine enough for you, what about a baby doll dress without the fishnets and combat boots? Or one of those thin strapped dresses with a little t shirt underneath? That's the way I dressed in high school for a couple of years.

Yes, I will be putting a flannel over it... I expect lots of flannel that night! I ordered the Lee Jeans and will see how they fit :good:

Love the babydoll dress look, too. That can be back up if I don't dig the jean shorts.

I meant to write babydoll dress with fishnets and boots, not without.
I think you'll look great, and it sounds like a fun time!

Be sure to tie the flannel around your waist if you get warm!
