Flu

Are you guys changing any habits (like not taking the kids out to the grocery store, for example) since the flu is so bad?

Honestly, no. My daughter goes to daycare so I figure there's no point. She was diagnosed with influenza A a few weeks ago. It turned into pneumonia and she also got a double ear infection that is still lingering. I hate seeing her sick, but I feel like 99.9% of the time that she's sick, it's because of school.

I’m trying to be better about washing hands and using germ x, but I figure it’s a lost cause. Sawyer still puts everything in his mouth, and both kids go to school. They’ll pick up germs no matter what we do.
We’ve already had influenza a and the stomach flu since Christmas. I’m hoping we can make it through the rest of the winter without another major epidemic.

I think this is the first weekend I am considering staying in as a result of everything going around. Cheska has been sick for two weeks now and I just want her to feel better!

I do agree though, I think all of the germs are from daycare.

Last weekend at hockey practice I wore her the entire time to keep people from being tempted to talk to her and touch her. It only partially helped. She is too social and likes to wave and babble at everything...

I am also being more obsessive about washing our hands when we get home and helping Jack to wash his to be sure it is done properly.

I’m making an effort to really push handwashing and sanitizer more than usual, but I’m not changing our plans in any way. The big kids both had influenza a 2 weeks ago and it was (fortunately) extremely mild and brief. Stomach bugs and strep are rampant at school right now, so it feels useless to worry about germs from other places right now.

We have avoided places like The Magic House, Science Center, etc. Other than that...not much we can do. Thankfully (knock on wood) there hasn't been a lot of flu at either kid's schools. There's been a ton at work (patients and workers). I've been very diligent about hand sanitizer and not touching my face/mouth/nose. I've been avoiding using shared computers on the units. We're seeing cases slack off so I'm hoping we really are past the worst of it like they say.

Not really. We've been pushing hand washing more and reminding the kids not to eat or drink after anyone. But, they are in school and soccer so we'll be around people no matter what.

Both kids were diagnosed with the flu before Christmas. Thankfully, it was relatively mild and only lasted a few days. We haven't done anything different because like everyone else said, they are in school and being exposed to everything there.

Not really. We are trying to stay in more because of the baby and avoid a lot of our favorite kid spots with the big boys (like Myseum, Magic House, Science Center) which is just torture for me. But we have been going our to stores and restaurants!

Just making sure we remind the girls to wash their hands more often and we also are avoiding places like the Magic House. Otherwise our routine hasn't really changed.

We have been avoiding places like the Magic House, Science Center, etc and really I avoid taking the kids to the grocery store with me at all costs regardless the time of year. Three kids and the grocery store alone is enough to make me question my sanity. The girls still do gymnastics, however, and we have a group that we get together with every Wednesday. This coming weekend I am contemplating changing some of our plans, though. Arloh has been sick several times since Christmas and I just need him to stay feeling well for a bit.

We wash our hands immediately upon coming inside and we change clothes anytime we come back from being in public. I also started spraying door handles, faucets, and sinks with hydrogen peroxide every evening.
